Masafumi Yamaguchi captures Men’s 50m back-stroke crown: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Japan’s young athlete, Masafumi Yamaguchi put up a great swim in the back-stroke final heat on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The final session conducted the Men's 50m back-stroke
event.
Yamaguchi was up against her strongest competitors including Sweden’s Kristian Kron and United Arab Emirates’ Mammed Humaid Al Ghaferi, but she began the final heat in a confident manner and took a considerable lead over her rivals. The Men’s 50m back-stroke
final event produced stunning results on the podium, as Yamaguchi finished first with a sterling mark of 24.17 seconds, while Kron earned second spot in the respective meet in 25.99 seconds. Ghaferi settled for third spot with a time of 26.08 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin wound up fourth in a time of 26.16 seconds. Additionally, Kolin Kevin Riazanov of United Arab Emirates rounded out the top five in a time of 26.82 seconds. Gene Laurence of United Arab Emirates earned
sixth place honours with a time of 26.99 seconds, whereas, Syria’s Ayman Klzie settled for seventh spot in a time of 27.59 seconds.
Earlier, Daryna Zevina of Ukraine earned gold medal with a sterling mark of 58.18 seconds in the Women’s 100m back-stroke. In the corresponding splash, Miyuki Takemura grabbed silver medal by submitting a time of 58.75 seconds, whereas, Simona Baumrtova
settled for bronze title in a time of 59.94 seconds.
The incredible swims of all athletes were appreciated by spectators present in the arena, while the victorious were awarded medals and cash prize after the session’s completion.
The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is an opportunity for all swimmers to compete at the international level and assess their potential to perform in upcoming events, which includes the 2012 London Olympics. The next round of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
series is scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, from October 15-16, where Australia and Canada will join other teams to compete in the event.
