Masao Furusawa says Lorenzo-Rossi pairing might create problems for Yamaha – MotoGP news
According to Masao Furusawa, a key figure in Valentino Rossi’s run of 4 successive championship titles for Yamaha, 2013 will be a tough year for the Japanese outfits’ crew and management in light of Jorge Lorenzo – Valentino Rossi pairing.
“I realise it will be good enjoyment for the fans with Valentino and Jorge sharing the same garage again, but it will be a very difficult year for the people who live inside that garage,” Furusawa told Motosprint.
The history of acrimony between one of the greatest riders of our time, Valentino Rossi and his teammate Jorge Lorenzo, the 2012 MotoGP World Champion is well known to the world. In 2010, the animosity between the Yamaha teammates led to a wall being created
in the Yamaha MotoGP garage when it was decided that there will be no sharing of data between Rossi and Lorenzo.
In 2010, team dynamics played a major part in the spoiled relationship between Lorenzo and Rossi. Rossi was Nakajima’s favourite driver until Lorenzo joined the team after which Lorenzo became Nakajima’s preferred driver because Lorenzo was younger than
his teammate and it was easier for Nakajima to negotiate things with him. Things changed a little bit when in early 2012, Yamaha came to know of Lorenzo’s negotiations with Honda. This was a bit of a shock for Nakajima and he changed his attitude towards Lorenzo.
It is in this atmosphere that Rossi is making his return to Yamaha and no one knows what will happen within the team.
Chances are that in the 2013 season, with Rossi and Lorenzo teammates again, similar problems will arise for Yamaha. But Lorenzo negates the chances of the wall returning to the garage.
Welcoming Rossi back to the team, he said, “For me, it's a big pleasure to be team-mate with Rossi again. I always said the wall is a stupid thing. It doesn't make sense for anything. No wall is OK for me and I think for Vale this time!”
These days, fans are more interested in competitive races on the circuit and most of them have little concern about the rivalries between riders. It is about time for Rossi and Lorenzo to accept the fact and try and learn to improve the level of cooperation
amongst them.
