The former Argentinean skipper has recently expressed that he is happy with life in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 and is keen on staying at the Nou Camp until 2014.
While playing under Josep Guardiola, Barcelona have seen many players play in positions where they don’t actually belong. In fact, the Catalan coach introduced total football in such a way, that players could easily shift their roles and play in another
role without any hesitation.
The best example of such players can be taken from the Argentinean star, Javier Mascherano.
When Mascherano was a part of the Premier League side, Liverpool, he was considered to be one of the best holding midfielders in the world. Mascherano, alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xabi-Alonso-c37045, formed one of the deadliest partnerships in the centre of the pitch.
However, after becoming a part of the Catalan giants in August 2010, he never expected what Josep Guardiola had in stored for him.
The Catalan mentor first gave Mascherano the opportunity to play in his favourite holding midfield position. Sergio Busquets and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Seydou-Keita-c33177 were the two players who were already playing in that position for Barcelona, but Guardiola still gave Mascherano
off the bench appearances so he could show his traits to the fans.
The Argentinean could not get the job done perfectly, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Busquets-c33048 was the type of player Josep Guardiola was looking for; someone who is not only good at tackling; in fact, someone who can also pass the ball well.
Later that year, Carles Puyol suffered an injury and Javier Mascherano was played in the centre-back position.

Since then, Mascherano has gained the confidence of the Catalan fans and he has been performing so well that he was even chosen over Puyol to start in the UEFA Champions League final last season; which Barcelona eventually won against Manchester United.
Recently speaking about his life at the Nou Camp, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Mascherano-c18071 said:
“I have no intention to leave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. I am very happy with the way things are going here,” Mascherano said.
“I don’t think I deserve a new contract.
“If I have the chance to continue or get a new deal in the future, that will be great. The club will decide.”
Mascherano’s current contract binds him to the Nou Camp until 2014.
