Mascherano heading to Inter Milan and Torres keeping quiet
Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Benfica midfielder Ramires, and hope to fend off the challenge from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The Premier League champions will make a bid of around £20million to land the Brazilian defensive star as potential cover for Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel.
Liverpool’s Fernando Torres has been linked with Chelsea all summer, and the Spanish striker has held talks with Reds managing director Christian Purslow. However, he is keeping the club waiting when it comes committing his future. Torres stated he would decide on whether he wanted to leave Anfield until after the World Cup.
Also, European and Italian champions Inter Milan have confirmed they are in talks with Liverpool over the signing of Javier Mascherano. The Argentinian midfielder wants to join with former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, and Inter Milan will table a bid of £25million. Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson wants to sign Wayne Bridge as well as Nice striker Loïc Rémy.
Liverpool’s bid to try and sign Rémy could be foiled by West Ham, after they made another improved bid, this time at £13million. Hodgson hopes to tempt Nice with Nabil El Zhar and Damien Plessis included in a players-plus-cash offer to land Rémy.
West Ham manager Avram Grant wants to sign Ajax playmaker Miralem Sulejman, but is waiting for Fulham to appoint manager Martin Jol to make way for the transfer. However, Jol is set to stay at Ajax.
Real Madrid striker Raúl is available on a free transfer, and Tottenham Hotspur are leading the pack to land the Spanish hitman. The 33-year-old looks to be surplus to requirements at the Bernabéu under new manager José Mourinho. Also, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp wants to bring in Craig Bellamy on loan from Manchester City, with the striker certain to switch clubs this summer.
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger hopes he can persuade Sol Campbell to sign a new deal with the Gunners and turn down offers from Newcastle, Sunderland and Celtic. Campbell is a free agent, and Wenger wants to keep him at Arsenal after sterling performances on his dramatic return to the club last season.
David James is on his way out of cash-strapped Portsmouth, with Sunderland joining the race to sign the veteran shot-stopper along with Celtic, while Everton have received a bid of £9million from Spanish club Sevilla for Mikel Arteta.
Wigan are lining up a move for Carlos Salcido in a £2million deal as a possible replacement for Maynor Figueroa, who could be on his way to Liverpool, while Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega is wanted by Stoke, who are set to offer £7million plus James Beattie to land the Columbian. Meanwhile, George Boateng is wanted by West Bromwich Albion.
