Mashonaland Eagles v Matabeleland Tuskers – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 Domestic Twenty20 Competition – Match Update
A concentrated all-round effort from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matabeleland-Tuskers-c815, in the ongoing Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Competition, at the Harare Sports Club today on October 18.
The Tuskers won the toss and chose to field first, but a string of steady partnerships from the Eagles saw the efforts of debutant Godwill Mamhiyo (2-0-22-2) going in vain, as the Eagles went on to post a solid total of 176 by the end of 20 overs.
The Eagles opened their innings with Cephas Zhuwao (43) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sikandar-Raza-Butt-c90274 (63), both of whom joined forces for a massive 110-run stand. Mamhiyo finally got the Tuskers their first breakthrough, in the 12th over, by sending Zhuwao back to the pavilion.
While Zhuwao’s successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CJ-Chibhabha-c1263 (1) made his exit in the 16th, off Mamhiyo.
However, owing to the strong foundation laid by the openers, and the small contributions from the rest of the batsmen, the team total was at 158 by the time Chigumbura was dislodged by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waller-c95917 (16*) chipped in with some final contributions to get the Eagles’ final total up to 176.
The Eagles then launched a successful defence of their total, with each one of their six bowlers managing to claim at least one wicket each, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tinotenda-Mutombodzi-c2684 (3-0-15-2) and Chibhabha (3-0-16-2) both claimed 2 each.
None of the Tuskers’ batsmen managed to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KM-Dabengwa-c1800 remained the top-scorer for the team, with a dismal 19.
The highest partnership on the Tuskers’ side was a 24-run stand between Dabengwa and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Staddon-c48314 (17*) were the only other stand-out contributors. The remainder of the batting order crumbled without a fight, and by the end of 18 overs, the Tuskers were all out at 105, granting the Eagles a 71-run win.
