Masking spray paint art

Question

i want to create something like this because i think the layering with masking paper, wax paper, and spary paint is really neat yet i don't understand the concept of where the wax paper comes into play?

PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TECHNIQUE

It is really easy but it is like playing the piano... practice practice practice. The video doesn't explain the masking very well. He buys the masking paper and tape to use over the areas where he doesn't have the masking FILM. The masking film is expensive tacky clear plastic that comes on a roll that you stick down and then cut out your images by color and remove that section and then paint. The film is tacky so it stays down and protects the areas that you don't want to get painted. Think of it as a sticky stencil that you cut yourself.  I use clear contact shelf paper from Walmart because it is a lot cheaper. That is why he is buying  1/4 inch masonite wood to paint on instead of canvas so he can cut out his images and not cut through the canvas. If you go to your local art store and find the airbrush dept. you will find the masking film and stencils and all kinds of things you can use for spray paint art. Lets just say you are doing a mickey mouse for simplicity. You get the masonite board and spray it with primer and let dry. Then cover it with the masking film. Trace the image onto the masking film with transfer paper. Then cut out all of the areas that will be black and take the film off of those areas. You may need the blue tape and masking paper to put around the edges of the masonite so your over spray won't get everywhere. If you take the film off carefully you can put it back over those areas to protect them later. Spray black and let dry. Now either pull off all of the masking film and put on a whole new sheet or carefully put back the pieces that you previously cut out and then cut out all of the areas that are to be sprayed white. Does that make sense? Look up videos on You Tube for airbrush art and spray paint art. Just keep in mind that the airbrush gives you a lot of detail without masking. With the spray paint you need to do a lot more masking. You can do as many layers and as much detail as your imagination can come up with. Have fun!!!
