Mason Fire Marshal: Blaze that destroyed home of Cincinnati Bengals Antwan Odom was not arson
The State Fire Marshal’s office in Mason, Ohio released a report on Tuesday evening that the fire which destroyed the home of Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Antwan Odom was not caused by arson.
The office said that they have still not determined the cause of the fire, although there is no sign of any criminal damage. Investigators came up with several accidental causes but could not narrow them down to one at this time.
The fire that occurred on March 15, 2011 destroyed much of Odom’s house, collapsing the roof and causing severe damage to the rest of it. The Warren County auditor’s website lists his suburban home as having a value of $1.2 million, which is how much he
earns in about two months according to his five-year, $29.5 million contract.
The Fire Marshal’s office in Mason, located just north of Cincinnati, Ohio, also confirmed that no one was injured in the fire since the 29-year-old defensive end was out of town, visiting Alabama with his wife, four sons and one daughter.
The home is spread on an area of about 6,000 square feet (1,828 square meters) and was built in 2000s.
Odom has just completed his second year with the Bengals. He played in only four games during the 2010 season but started none of them, recording only four tackles with no sacks, forced fumbles or interceptions. He was signed by the Bengals in 2008 after
he was one of the fourteen free agents on the Tennessee Titans team, where he has played for most of his seven-year career.
After being drafted 57th overall by the Titans in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft, Odom played with them for four seasons, playing in 52 games but starting only 35 of them. In those games, Odom accumulated 82 total tackles, 12.5 sacks and
11 passes deflected.
His best season with the Titans came in 2007 when he started in all 16 games and had eight sacks. He then came to the Bengals in 2008 and has had 14 starts in 18 games for 45 tackles, 11 sacks and two passes deflected. His best season to date came in 2009
when he had eight tackles in six games, including five against Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.
