Mason Raymond signs a new contract with Vancouver Canucks
Canada’s Mason Raymond has signed a new one-year contract with Vancouver Canucks for $2.275 million. With it he also avoided being taken into arbitration by the Vancouver Canucks.
This shows $325000 reduction in his salary as he was signed for $2.6 Million last year. The main cause of it being, the injury that he suffered during 2011 Stanley Cup final which made him miss training camp and the first two months. He had a very disappointing
season in which he played 55 games, scored 10 goals and 20 points. This was the main reason the Canucks had filed for an arbitration to cut down the player’s wages.
“I'm happy to get it done,” Raymond said. “Vancouver is a place where I started my career and I've enjoyed the heck out of it ever since. As far as the business side goes, every player says it and it's the truth: it's a business. ”
According to him it is never easy to comeback after going through Vertebrae injury and other stuff. But now it is history and he is happy to be back. He can’t wait to get back into action and get the things going once again. He is excited about things and
has to prove himself. Gym is the right for his body to be in, to make him successful.
Laurence Gillman, the assistant General Manager of Vancouver Canucks was also satisfied with comprising with Raymond and avoiding arbitration. Canucks have reduced Raymond’s salaries by 12.5% which is a little less than maximum reduction i.e. 15%.
26 year-old Left winger, Raymond has been at Vancouver for last 5 years now, since he left Junior and College, playing there for Camrose Kodiaks, University of Minnesota Duluth and Manitoba Moose, 2 years for each of them. He had his best season in 2009-2010
when he played 82 games, scored 25 goals, made 28 assists earning him total of 53 points. Last two seasons have not been good for him so he would be hoping for a one had he had 3 years ago to prove his worth once again.
