Masquerade Prom?

Question

I am class president and it is my junior year and made the suggestion that we do a Masquerade prom. We voted on it and well, surprisingly people loved it! But since searching for decorations, I've noticed that a lot of Mardi Gra things come up with Masquerade. Are they really similar or is it just the mask thing? Also, any other neat decorating ideas or basically any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :o)
