Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 2, 2011 through the eyes of a gamer – Part 2
This is a continuation of the first part of the article.
Media Molecule may have brought an innocently mischievous smile on every gamer’s face with LittleBigPlanet 2, yet there were other games which put the fate of the world in the gamer’s hands.
One such game was Mass Effect 2. Now, many readers will be slightly confused, because the game was released in 2010 while we are talking about games in 2011. Firstly, we urge the reader to keep their pants on (our way of saying not to get too excited) and
secondly, there is a sound reason behind it.
Mass Effect 2 was released on the Xbox 360 and PC on January 26, 2010, however, it was re-made on the engine which would be later used to power Mass Effect 3, and released on the PlayStation3 on the January 18, 2011.
The fact of the matter is that Mass Effect 2 was a brilliant game when it was released in 2010, going on to win a number of awards and being nominated for so many others. Its PlayStation 3 cousin was more of the same, though with more polish than former
WWE wrestler, Stone Cold Steve Austin’s head and few bonus missions and extra content exclusive to Sony’s console.
The PlayStation 3 version of the game received just as much praise as its Xbox 360 counterpart as it managed to reach an aggregate score of 94 percent on Metacritic.
Mass Effect 3 also went on to break the record for the number of ‘perfect’ scores any game Electronic Arts has ever made, which is a testament to not only the game itself, but the talent at its developer’s, BioWare, disposal.
Mass Effect 3 is set for release next year and PlayStation 3 users, at least will be glad that they did not have to pick up the storyline of the series from the third instalment in the franchise and had Mass Effect 2 to help them break into it.
Yet, while gamers were busy deciding if they wanted Sam Shepard to be a man or woman and then worrying how their actions would affect the outcome of the game, there was another group of gamers who were in constant need of changing their frequently soiled
pants.
That is because a few days later, they would have gotten their hands on the action/horror game, Dead Space 2.
The developer, Visceral Games, knew they had a lot to live up to following one of the most graphic, terrifying and utterly addictive games in recent history, Dead Space, when they announced the sequel.
The hype was unbearable for some especially when the devs decided to drop a bit of a bombshell by mentioning that they had a multiplayer component as well. Few wondered how that would work out in a game like Dead Space, yet it was cause for excitement all
the same.
Readers can read on and find out more as to why the release of Dead Space 2 was worth a place on every gamer’s calendar in the next part of this article:
