Ever wanted a Sam Shepard action figure? It seems EA and BigBadToStore think you do and they are launching a whole range of models for gamers to part their money over.
Every Triple-A title seems to come out with a number of bundles and special editions these days as they have become a core part of the publisher’s and distributor’s marketing strategies. Sony Computer Entertainment has released a number of bundles ranging from Killzone 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Gran Turismo, MotorStorm, InFamous, among others.
Microsoft has also been a regular bundle ‘releaser’ with Gears of War and Halo both getting their own bundles. It seems EA is now going down the same line as it announced its bundle for their eagerly anticipated third-person action role playing game, Mass Effect 3.
The bundle has been announced for North America and is exclusive for that region; however, as often is the case with these special offers they do make their way into other regions as well, meaning that gamers in Europe need only be patient to find out what Electronic Arts have in store for them.
As for the bundle itself, it will come with a card, which will come with the codes for future Downloadable Content packs as well as the aforementioned, action figures.
The action figures will be modelled and crafted by BigBadToyStore, which apart from having a rather cool name also have a huge responsibility delivering a quality product for the fans of the series. There are four action figures planned as of this moment and one can expect a second wave to hit stores based on the success of the first wave.
The four characters set to have a physical action figure are Garrus, Legion, Miranda and Legion. Each figure is set to set consumers back $17.99 individually, yet for the collectors out there they are available in a four figure bundle priced at a cool $67.99.
The official announcement by the toy company read, “Each figure includes an in-pack card giving you access to downloadable in-game bonus content.” One has to put this down as a very clever piece of marketing making consumers want something they otherwise would not normally take a second look at, although merchandising methods such as these are becoming more popular in the video game industry.
The statement continued, “Each figure contains different in-game content, exclusive to North American released product.” This on the other hand will come as a slight disappointment for gamers in other regions as the codes will only work on PlayStation Network accounts that have a US address.
While it may not be the first time action figures have come bundled with games, with Killzone 3 offering a semi-cloaked Helghast sniper with its Helghast edition, it is a new take on the move by EA.
