There is an increasing amount of speculation that the Mass Effect franchise could soon be expanding on to mobile and portable gaming devices.
Mass Effect 3 is one of the titles that everyone is looking forward to this year and it is easily 2012’s most eagerly anticipated game. Electronic Arts are looking to bring the intergalactic war right to everyone’s doorstep as the third instalment in the popular series is set to take place.
It also seems that mankind needs all the help it can get as the game is looking to recruit as many soldiers as it can by going multiplatform. After releasing Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3, it seems that BioWare has shunned the Microsoft exclusivity and have gone multiplatform with their series.
This has led to a larger potential consumer base for the game and interest has grown exponentially since the multiplatform-itivity of the game was announced.
A number of trailers have been released of the upcoming game, including an epic battle against a 100-foot tall Reaper and plenty of details have been given relating to the game’s pre-order bonuses and special editions.
The latest trailer for the game shows off the cast of voice actors that have brought the characters to life and now it seems that the Mass Effect series is on its way to portable gaming devices and smart phones as well, further expanding their existing consumer base by tapping into a new market.
A representative for EA mysteriously teased the gaming public that they could be getting their hands on portable tie-ins of the game on their mobile platforms.
Those with good memory will also remember a similar announcement made nearly a year ago. It read that consumers could expect, “new ways to play Mass Effect.”
While mobile phones and portable gaming devices were not the first idea to pop into everyone’s heads, as they probably assumed that Kinect and PlayStation Move functionality was what EA was on about, it turns out it could very well be mobile phones that were being teased.
At this point in time there is more speculation that concrete facts, but knowing how the video game industry works, this could be the first of many indications of the Mass Effect series going portable and mobile.
