i have been looking into a board selling on ebay that is irresistable because it is perfect for my experience/size but i see many of the same exact board being sold. Is it "bad" if a board is being mass-produced?

  1. If you are relatively new to surfing there is little chance of you being able to tell the difference between a mass produced, or "pop-out" board and a hand shaped one.  The difference is really in making a decision on where you want to send your money.  Most mass produced boards are produced in Asia by people who don't surf and the shapes for many of the boards have been stolen from custom shapers.  Buying a hand shaped board from a local shop will cost you more but you know where your money is going.

I'm not saying that there is not a place for the pop-out boards.  If you are just getting into the sport it doesn't make sense to spend a lot on a new board if you are not sure what you are doing and not sure what you are really looking for in a board.

I went through a series of used hand-shaped boards before I figured out what worked  best for me.

  2. The two answers are correct.

  3. I dont think it is a bad thing... in fact it is probably a good thing that other people have the board and use it. I dont think it should matter who has it and who doesnt I say if the quality is good... if it is in good shape it should be fine.

---Totally agree with the dude below me... most boards like that are produced in places that don't have alot of expeirence surfing. So they probably arent the best idea to get a less popular board by somebody who knows what their doing....
