Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick frowns upon Tim Thomas' absence in White House visit -NHL Update
While Tim Thomas might have expected support for his move not to accept an invitation to the White House for a ceremony with President Barack Hussein Obama being the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL), but in return, has faced more opposition with Massachusetts
Governor Deval Patrick, being the latest to criticise his action of protest.
Believing that the right to protest and talk against national policies in light of being the citizen of a democratic country, Patrick also thought that declining such an invitation is not the proper way to do so.
It is not the problem of disagreeing and wanting to show that you agree otherwise, according to Gov. Patrick, who is also a Democrat, terms what he did as being ungraceful and lacking the basic courtesy.
“He’s a phenomenal hockey player and he’s entitled to his views, but it just feels to me like we’re losing in this country basic courtesy and grace”, Patrick said.
While not agreeing with each and every policy of President Obama, Gov. Patrick still believes that showing him respect and registering your views with him on a personal note is something that needs to be done in the proper manner instead of showing ignorance
in total.
“I didn’t think much of President Bush’s policies – two wars on a credit card, prescription drug benefit that we couldn’t afford, deficit out of control – but I always referred to him as ‘Mr. President.’ I stood when he came in the room”, Patrick said in
his monthly appearance on the “Ask the Governor” segment on WTKK-FM.
In his stance, Tim Thomas stated that he would not be attending the White House ceremony to honour the Stanley Cup champions and present a Boston Bruins jersey to President Obama due to the current system being, “out of control”, along with adding that he
was not talking on the grounds of any specific party, but in an overall sense.
Thomas also alleged that both political parties of the United States are responsible for the current mess the nation is in and has no intentions of continuing this discussion in the following days.
