I am interested in working for a while on a ship and just traveling around in the world. I have a degree in Massage Therapie (700hr) and as Group Fitness Instructor. Tell me your story :) How long did you go and where? How many massages per day, How is the salary? How are the clients on a ship? What didn't you like?

Thanks for sharing!

  1. Ok, Jamali, sorry I haven't answered your email yet.

    Let's go.

The spa division, like most all concessions on board, depend a lot on the ship, the kind of passengers you get and the destination.

For example, massages are not very popular with British pax, ships with no fornal nights are not very good for the hair stylists and so forth.

    www.steinerleisure.com

    and

    www.hardingbros.co.uk

are the main conessionaries for spas.

    Steiner is bigger.

I've worked for Harding's shop division and had many friends from the Spa.

They made 100 POUNDS a week, plus comission and tips and thats where you make your money.

Both companies require that you have a training course, Hardings is in Sothampton.

You'll need a medical exam and an STCW-95 (basic sea survival, fire fighting, first aid and crowd management).

Depending where you are an STCW can be expensive (400 pounds in the UK).

You usually pay your ticket in and they pay the return, but it's not a rule, depends on the company.

You'll share a cabin with a colleage from the same department.

Also, all concessions are STAFF positions, which are much better than crew. Staff have better cabins, better deck privileges (depending on the line, but in most of them) and a better status on board.

    It's an amazing life, Jamali.

My favorite destination is the Baltic, Danmark, Sweden, Norway, midnight sun... great!

    Caribbean is not bad either.

I'm not crazy about the Med but that's just me.

    take care

    Denis

  2. Salary is terrible. Cruise ships sail in international waters so there is no minimum wage. Try working for google. The first millionaire massage therapist worked there.

  3. call the cruiselines call their customer service line and ask what others have done to get jobs like yours.

    good luck
