I'm 18, 19 when I will be a qualified massage therapist. I want to be a massage therapist that goes on tour with bands, just locally but eventually perhaps internationally.

1. Are these realistic dreams?

2. How should I start, with small bands and just work my way up?

3. Will I have to do alot of free work first?

4. On what basis will I be payed?

5. How much do i have to pay for whilst on tour or is it covered by the band?

6. who pays me (the band, agents, ??)

and how. per massage, per hour, and what is covered for me, accomodation, food etc.

Thankyouthankthankyou. I know theres a lot of questions,

Any information at all really.

  1. Hi, good luck with your new career.  I am not sure I can answer all your questions, but here is what I do know:  many theater/ dance troupes travel with massage therapists as well as physical therapists, so you may want to explore that option as well.  I know folks who have contacted venues like stadiums, theaters, anywhere bands play, and gotten jobs through them.  I would suggest that you do work on local musicians just so you get a feel for what kind of work they need, what types of extra training you might want, and what muscle strain patterns are caused by which instruments.  Practice never hurts, and you never know where a job offer will come from.  As far as payment, accomodations, I am sure that you will negotiate that when it comes up.  For now I would say practice as much as you can, and take any advanced training you can afford, especially in sports massage and injury work.  Good luck

  2. Hello, and congrats on becoming a massage therapist. I am also a massage therapist and understand all your questions. First, yes, your dreams are realistic. There are quite a few bands that have a massage therapist that travel with them. First, you need to get the word out. Start small is my advise. Word of mouth is our best advertisement, and it is free. You should check out some older issues of different massage magazines. Do a google search and you will find therapists who do what you want. You will be able to get some good info.Ultimately you are in charge, so do some research and figure out what is best for you when it comes to how much you want to make. If you want to talk more or need more help, please email me at cbake@myabmp.com. Take care and hope this helped. Oh yeah, I have been practicing for 7 years now.

  3. These are things you will have to try for yourself and sort out for yourself.

Dreams aren't realistic - that is why they are dreams but they are for us to follow if we so choose.

You can basically do what you want and charge what you want and just keep changing and trying different things till you get what you want.

This is why I don't recommend that people don't go to massage school right out of high school because you really need a degree in business and/or marketing or more life experience so you can figure those things out.  You should find a mentor to help you.

If/when you do it and have been working for a few years write an ebook and I'll sell it to others for you on my sites on massage.
