Question:

Masses of different woods?

Does anyone know the mass of balsa wood and/or bass wood? I know they aren't constant, but just a general idea. Also, are there any woods that have a mass in between those two? Where would you find this information besides actually measuring and weighing it? Are there books or something?

  1. Density (aka Specific Gravity ) is what you are looking for.

    Balsa is 170 kg/cu.m

bass is not on the list

    oak is 590 - 930

    pine is about 550

you can look at the density numbers as the weight in kg of a cube one meter on each side.

here is a table of wood densities

    another

    there are probably others.
