A.C Milan manager, Massimiliano Allegri, has targeted UEFA Champions League triumph next season, and is hopeful of doing well this season too.
Milan have qualified for the last 16 round of the competition after finishing second in Group H. The Rossoneri will take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the first-knock out round in February.
Allegri admitted that current holders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, are favourites to defend their title. However, the manager insisted that his team played well against the Spanish Champions in the group stage matches.
The 44-year-old believes that his squad has the quality to perform well in Europe this season, but they have targeted next season triumph.
“Barcelona continue to be the best team in the world, but when we played against them – especially in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 – they created few dangers. We emerged from that game aware of what we could achieve against them. I believe next term
can be the right one for the Champions League, but we can do great things this season too.”
The former Cagliari boss is yet to agree on an extension to his existing contract at San Siro, and claims that the talks over a new contract are ongoing. Allegri’s contract with the Italian Champions is due to expire at the end
of the ongoing season, and club vice-president, Adriano Galliani, has already expressed his desire of keeping the manager.

“We haven’t yet agreed the figures for my contract with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773 Galliani and President Silvio Berlusconi. If they confirm me in the job then I’m happy, as it’ll mean they have faith in me. I know full well where I have to improve
as a Coach.”
Allegri helped Milan to reclaim the Scudetto in his debut season, and the Champions are on course to defend their crown after finishing 2011 on top.
Milan will face Atalanta in their next league game on January 8th, 2012.
