Massimo Moratti pleased with Inter Milan's display against Werder Bremen
Massimo Moratti, Inter Milan's influential president, has praised his team's efforts against Werder Bremen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Samuel Eto'o's hat-trick and a strike from Wesley Sneijder earned the Italian champions a 4–0 win, their first in Europe this season. Rafael Benitez' team is now sitting at the top of Group A with four points.
"I saw the team in excellent shape. I really liked it, and it was important to win and get points for the group," said Moratti, who has been in charge at Inter since 1995.
"I was impressed with the younger players. They were involved plenty, but it's clear they need more time. Still, they played very well."
Rafael Benitez included wingers Philippe Coutinho and Jonathan Biabiany, aged 18 and 22 respectively, on Inter's starting line-up. It was Biabiany's third appearance, and Coutinho's second for the team this season.
Coutinho, who signed for Inter during the summer, has proved to be a constant threat down the left wing, and came close to scoring on several occasions during the game.
The victory will give Inter some breathing space ahead of their game against Tottenham in three weeks' time. This weekend, Benitez' men will play Juventus in a tough league fixture.
Inter are currently at the top of the Serie A-table after collecting ten points in five games, but Benitez' team has been criticized for their sub-par performance against Roma last weekend.
Morrati went on to say that the game against Bremen was the perfect response to the 1–0 league defeat.
"I saw a very good team, but it's not the first time we have played well this season. Yesterday's performance confirmed that our play is brilliant."
