Question:

Massive difference in draft and final marks?

My english teacher read my essay, told me a few things to fix up, and highlighted the criteria sheet saying that I'd done REALLY well, like... "you're sitting on an A here.. fix these things up and you might get an A+" is what she actually said

However, after i presented my essay (as a speech) a recieved a mark just above a pass =S, a low C.

The person that marked my draft was different to the person that marked my speech... and i didnt stuff up my speech or anything i said it fine. I just wanted to know if i should take it further?

This goes towards my final senior marks and so I'm kind of devastated at the moment, me being a straight A student... i feel like I've been cheated here, but maybe im just complaining or finding excuses here... help?

  1. That is flat out wrong.  Do not, for a moment, sit back and allow it to go "as it."

Whether the circumstances that resulted in this misstep were purposeful or not should not be the intent of your complaint ... simply put, you were misled.

Being a senior and a straight A student should have plenty of merit toward positioning your case.  Do not accept any feedback akin to "let it go," "so what," "it's not worth your time and effort."  It is absolutely worth your time and effort.

You are a young woman who is not only doing her best but also vesting faith and truth in the leadership roles and responsibilities of the adults around you.

People are not infallible nor immune from being alerted of their mistakes ... too often, in my view, adults take advantage of the age difference and when something goes awry with, let's say a high school student, the adult tends to blow it off as no big deal and then gets offended when the student says wait a minute, it is a big deal!

So, as an adult, a father, an educator, and a civic-minded individual I believe 100% that yes, you should take this further.

Be strong, stand your ground, and good luck!
