Massive sports tragedies?

So, I'm watching "World's Most Amazing Videos" right now which for those who don't know is a collection of extreme videos where people are involved in very dangerous situations but pull out without fatal injuries. It showed one where during a high school football plane a light aircraft crashed into a row of spectators which reminded me of something I heard a long time ago - regarding Wayne Gretzky and how during his rookie days as an Oiler was absolutely TERRIFIED of flying from city to city because he was so paranoid about crashing. This made me wonder if throughout history has any professional (or semi-professional) sports teams as a team ever died on either flights or tour buses? Thanks!

  1. I remember a movie called "Alive" it was about a group of soccer players who were flying to an event and their plane crashed. Most died and the ones that lived were eventually rescued after having to eat the flesh of those that perished.

  2. Ahh, Gretzky. Haha.

The only massive Team plane crash I can recall that I've ever heard of was in 1970....the Marshall University NCAA Football Team plane crashed, killing 75 people.

  3. In 1961, Sabena Flight 548 crashed with the entire US Figure Skating Team headed to the World Championships in Prague.

  4. Roberto Clemente died in a plane crash
