Massive wins for Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx – WNBA Roundup June 21, 2012
There were a total of two matches played on 21st June in the WNBA, with Indiana Fever handing out a thrashing to the visiting Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx getting back to winning ways by running riot over New York
Liberty at home. Let`s roundup the proceedings of the day.
1. Connecticut Sun versus Indiana Fever
In the first matchup of the night, Indiana Fever courtesy of their 15 three pointers in the game, defeated Connecticut Sun 95-61 at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Brian January led the scoring with 20 points which included 4 of 5
shooting from beyond the arc.
Five other players for Fever finished the game with double digit scores. Katie Douglas put up 17 points while Tamika Catchings and Shavonte Zellous contributed 13 points each. Erin Phillips came off the bench to knock in 3 three
pointer for 14 points whereas Jeanette Pohlen managed to get 12 points to her name.
For the Sun`s, only three players crossed the double digit mark with their highest scorer being Mistie Mims. She came off the bench to record 11 points while Asjha Jones and Kara Lawson managed to contribute 10 points each.
2. New York Liberty versus Minnesota Lynx
In the second match of the night Minnesota Lynx despite a slow start to the game finally got going in the remaining three quarters to blow out New York Liberty with a score line of 102-70 and improve their win loss record to 11-1
to start the season.
Seimone Augustus managed to mark down her best performance of the season with 26 points while rookie sensation Devereaux Peters managed to chip in with 18.
For the team from ‘Big Apple’, it was a disappointing loss as they failed to capitalize on a good start to the game against the reigning WNBA Champions. They held a 28-17 lead in the early stages of the second quarter, but completely
melted down after that.
Cappie Pondexter tried her best with a season high performance of 30 points while Nicole Powell chipped in with 16 points but could not stop Liberty from losing their third game in four outings.
