Masson hopeful for a win in Ricoh Women’s British Open
Caroline Masson has a history with the Women’s British Open. Last year, she was the hot favourite of the event and seemed destined for the first place.
She finished the event in the fifth place. This time she is hopeful for a win at the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open. Could the German player pull it off?
Last time, when she was playing in the event, she was in great form. The golf course, Carnoustie Golf Links was a pleasure to play on and Masson sailed right through the first round only to flutter down in the last.
The first round was exciting as the players moved in to tee off. The result of the round was very encouraging for Masson. She scored 68 points and was just three strokes behind the leader, the South Korean Meena Lee.
With the confidence gained out of the first round’s performance, Masson started the second round and quickly cut the lead to the move to the top of the ranking table. She scored 65 points and moved to the head of the scoreboard.
She consolidated her lead in the third round and shot another great 68 points. At this point, her total score was 201. It appeared that Caroline Masson will win the event despite the top players she was up against.
Other players who were also competing for the prize were Yani Tseng, Inbee Park, Sophie Gustafson, Paula Creamer and Anna Nordqvist. Masson’s performance is particularly great as she managed to hold on to the first place in the presence of these players.
The final round was where it all went wrong for Masson. She lost her advantage and by the end of the event, she had fallen down to the fifth position. She was at a lost to explain what had happened in the round. She scored 78 points and her total score was
279.
This score meant that Masson was following the leader Yani Tseng by seven strokes. Experts were unable to explain the situation and Masson was no help.
The 2012 edition of the event is less than a month away. Masson is preparing for it and this time she plans to perform well in all the rounds.
