Master's Econometrics w/o taking Intro (Undergrad) Econometrics?

Hi, I am planning to take Master's Econometrics for next semester so that I can be a competitive applicant for good Econ PhD programs. I recently changed my major from Sociology to Economics and I need to finish theory classes fairly quickly...

I've taken Stat for Social Scientists last summer but it was not mathematically rigorous at all.

I am wondering if I can survive and get a good grade in Master's Econometrics... The text is "Learning and Practicing Econometrics." My university is just a mediocre state university with 150th-ish ranked Econ PhD program....

Math/Econ classes I've taken are;

3 sem of Calc, Mathematical proof, Linear Algebra, and Diff Eq (In progress).

Intermediate Micro (with Calc), Intermediate Macro, and some field classes.

I got As in all classes except one Econ field class.

In the fall semester, I am taking also taking;

1. Real Analysis I (Undergrad)

2. Probability Theory (Undergrad)

3. Master's Microeconomics

4. Math for Economists (Audit Only)

  1. Honestly, if you are really solid on linear algebra you will be well prepared for econometric theory.  Applied econometrics is more about being comfortable with whatever software package the class is using.

    In most programs, econometrics is the last priority of the core curriculum, after micro and macro.  You sound really well prepared.  Good luck!
