  1. Not anymore, starting this year, all ATP Masters Series Finals are to be played best of 3....

  2. 3 sets

  3. best of 3 sets tie-break!!! :)

  4. As a compromise to give the players some relief from the physical plays of the modern game and satisfy traditionalists, most masters events kept the best of 5 format only for the finals.

The North American Masters are the first masters tournaments to have best of 3 finals, mainly for television broadcasting and to attract the casual fans.

After Nadal and Federer played back to back best of 5 finals in Monte Carlo and Rome back in 2006, Monte Carlo changed its format to best of 3 in 2007.

Seeing the success of the best of 3 finals the ATP decided to make all Masters Series finals best of 3 which is better for television broadcast, the player's health, and fans at home and in the stadiums.

  5. It would be nice to have every other Master Series final be a 5 setter... or something.

When did they start 5 set finals, and when did they end it? This is further proof that Nadal and Federer are the top players ever.
