Masterman swept aside by Holy Redeemer 3-0: High School Volleyball update
The Holy Redeemer boys volleyball team were able to send Masterman packing in a clean sweep on Tuesday in the PIAA Class AA tournament.
Masterman were no match for Redeemer who smothered them completely in the first two sets. Masterman was able to show some sign of life only in the third set, when making a win became integral to their survival in the tournament. However, the effort came in to late as Redeemer won the match by 25-19, 25-14 and 25-20.
John Kablick, coach of the Redeemers, commented on the match and praised his player, Dylan Myslowski, by saying, "I actually thought we won too easily and we were almost playing in cruise control. We started off the third game with a bad serve and it started to snowball from there. Dylan really picked up the team. He got us on a run with his serve."
Myslowski was able to play a key role in the third set of the match when the Royals found themselves trailing behind Masterman. By adding five points thanks to his service aces, Myslowski turned the tables in favor of Redeemer.
With two sets down, Masterman had responded positively to the pressure by coming out strong in the third set of the game. They were able to give Redeemer a run for their money by putting up an impressive display of volleyball. The persistence of Masterman brought them a crucial lead at 18-12. It was at this point that Myslowski acted to bring the Royals back into the game. Masterman could not handle the pressure and made an error that gave the lead to Redeemer at 21-19. Once they had the lead, the Royals did not look back and stopped only when they had bagged the third and final set of the game at 25-20.
Apart from Myslowski, another Royal that stood prominent in the match was Rob Wingert. He was able to keep the score board ticking by posting a total of 12 kills. Wingert also contributed by adding 27 assists as well as five service aces.
With their win, Redeemer has secured itself a position in the quarterfinals of the tournament. They will be entering the next round on Friday with the confidence of winning 20 games in this season so far with no loss at all. Redeemer will be determined to keep the number at zero even after exiting the courts at Penn State.
However, the Royals need to work on their serving as is cost them unnecessary points against Masterman. If they fail to cater to this problem, it may well prove to be Redeemer’s downfall in the upcoming matches of the tournament.
