Masters Tournament: Tiger Woods eager to wear the green jacket again – Golf News
The 14-time major winner, Tiger Woods, is back in the field of the Masters Tournament with a statement, “I’m here for the green jacket,” which clearly speaks of his hunger for the fifth victory at the Augusta National.
He will tee off in a group that comprises of Bae Sang-Moon and Miguel Angel Jiménez.
Woods remained winless on the PGA Tour for 30 months. However, he started to give a sign of his comeback at the start of the 2012 golf season.
He recently participated in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he outshined his opponents with a five-stroke victory.
Apart from ending his victory drought on the PGA Tour with a win at Bay Hill, he clearly gave a message to his rivals that he is returning to rule the world of golf again.
Woods’ last victory in the major championships came in the 2008 US Open. Therefore, Woods is now eager to record another one through the Masters Tournament, which will bring him closer to Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major titles.
According to Woods, the Augusta National Golf Club is one of his favourite golf spots in the world.
Therefore, it will not be an easy job for the players to compete against Woods when he is in his best form.
Woods believes that his swing technique, despite having been changed to a great extent by his coach, Sean Foley, is back being best once again.
“Consistently, with this type of control, it has been a few years,” he said. “As far as having the speed and pop in my game, it has been a very long time”.
“I think I have more shots than I did in 2000. I guess I’m not driving the ball as far, but I’m longer than I was in 2000. So it’s a different game,” he continued.
“The game has become bigger and stronger. When I played back in 2000, the big carry was 280 yards. That was a big carry over a corner. Now that has been moved out to 315, 320. It’s just a different number now,” he added.
There is no doubt that Woods is back in his form and a favourite to win the Masters.
Yet, no one can deny the fact that Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are the players who can create huge problems for him in the world that has changed in their favour in the last two years.
