Masuk boys volleyball defeats Oxford by 3-1 to win SWC championship – Volleyball news
Masuk boys volleyball had a memorable night on Thursday as they were able to hand out a defeat to Oxford and win the title of the SWC Championship. The victory was achieved after four long and exciting sets. Masuk was able to scrap a deserving win after
playing against raised odds as the match took place in the home court of the Wolverines.
Interestingly, the sort of performance the Wolverines put up was not something their rivals were expecting as Oxford was playing at a higher level than usual. That was part of the reason why each set of the match was closely contested and Masuk had to give
in their best to secure the championship title. The final scores for all four sets was, 25-22, 25-27, 25-20 and 25-18.
The coach of the Masuk volleyball team, Megan Miller, commented on the losing team after the match and said, "Oxford played an incredible match. That's the best I've seen them play. I wouldn't say we were overlooking them, but we did not expect them to play
that well."
The initial set of the game saw both Oxford and Masuk battle in an effort to secure dominance on the court. As a result, the beginning of the set saw the teams exchanging leads as they neared the middle of the set. Before long however, Masuk was able to
take the lead. Oxford did not let Masuk go too far and closed in the gap and also took the lead as well at 21-17. The Panthers did not let the deficit panic them and they were successful in making the match a tie at 22. After that point, a 25-22 win was easily
achieved by the Panthers.
After having lost the first set of the match, Wolverines responded by coming out strong in the second set of the game. They were able to give a tough time to Masuk by taking the lead at 20-13. Masuk answered by leveling the score but the Wolverines managed
to pull up ahead again and win the second set at 27-25.
Unfortunately for the Wolverines, they could not secure any more wins for themselves as the third and fourth sets were won by the Panthers at 24-23.
Masuk has finished the tournament with stats that reflect their championship status. They have won 16 games and lost only two. In comparison, the overall season record for Oxford was lacking as they secured 10 wins with 10 losses, which includes the loss
at the championship finals.
