Mat Latos intends to go well-prepared in the upcoming games
The Cincinnati Reds’ newly acquired starting pitcher Mat Latos said on Sunday, March 25, that whole game plan of spring is to build innings up for the regular season. He was commenting on the possibility of having a start on the mound once the season formally
kicks off.
Mat Latos has so far had an appreciably good, and seemingly satisfactory, performance in the Cactus League. Latos was somewhat cautious in declaring himself completely fit for the regular season despite the consistency he has shown in the spring.
A look at his stats so far shows he has manifested firmness, solidity and consistency. In the four starts that he has had, Latos has lost none, winning 2 games with an impressive 1.93 ERA in the over 14 innings.
Latos considers the last two weeks of the spring important for ascertaining if the pitcher is prepared for the ballgame.
"The season is right around the corner," said Latos, who was acquired in a December trade from the Padres. "The last two weeks are real crucial for any pitcher, to get that pitch count up and the innings up and prepare for a ballgame.”
The consistency that has remained the identifiable feature of this pitcher will lend credible support and help in attacking the zone.
“Hopefully, I can keep attacking the zone and keep putting up some zeroes, and keep going later and later in games to be ready for whenever I'm pitching in Cincinnati,” said Latos. "With Spring training, I'm right where I want to be. I want to keep working
on things, working on pitches.”
The starter will have his next start on Tuesday whereby he will play against the Chicago Cubs. The game will be of crucial importance for determining how effective he remains as the Cubs offence has shown signs of tremendous improvement lately.
The fact that he had wonderful pitching spells against the Colorado Rockies and the Texas Rangers will provide the confidence and power to go aggressively against the Cubs. It will be interesting to see if he succeeds in dismantling the rival offence in
Tuesday’s game.
