Mat Latos shines as San Diego Padres beat Colorado Rockies 2-1 - MLB Update

San Diego Padres’ starter, Mat Latos had a memorable day with the ball as he pitched just over eight innings and had nine strike-outs with an ERA of 3.60 in the Padres’ 2-1 win against Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on September 20.
In the first inning, Padres executed particularly well by taking a single run and led off 1-0. Jason Bartlett scored the first run for the Padres when Orlando Hudson hit a single-run drive towards right-field and Kyle Blanks occupied third base to end the
first inning. The pitchers threw the ball well and limited the shots of the batters from the second to fifth inning.
Kevin Kouzmanoff walked at the bottom of the second inning but Seth Smith and Jordan Pacheco both flied out while Wilin Rosario struck-out without contributing any run. In the third inning, Hudson walked and Nick Hundley singled off centre-field but Bartlett
popped out and Anthony Rizzo ground out to the pitcher without scoring even a single run.
Padres’ batters were ground out at the top of the fifth and were unable to extend their lead. In the sixth inning, Padres got a 2-0 lead when Jeremy Hermida doubled to deep left-field and Hudson completed a single run. The batters seemed immobilised during
the seventh and eighth inning as the pitchers threw in a perfect line.
Latos gave away six hits, one run, one walk and one earned run on his 123 pitches. Speaking to reporters, he said, “It was a seeing-eye single. If you're going to beat me I would have wanted a line drive.”
Padres’ manager, Bud Black commented on Latos and said, “I know how that feels. I wanted him to have two. I really thought he was going to do it, but once Pacheco got the hit it was time to go to Heath.”
Dexter Fowler struck-out looking, Smith fouled out and Pacheco flied out at the bottom of seventh inning. Rosario singled off left-field but Eric Young Jr. and Kouzmanoff both ground out without adding the first run for the Rockies. At last, Colorado scored
a single run at the bottom of the ninth inning to cut their deficit 2-1.
Fowler scored the final run when Pacheco hit a single-run drive to centre-field. However, Padres confirmed a 2-0 lead in the three-game series played at Coors Field.
