Chelsea’s Juan Mata has gone on to label Petr Cech to be an angel, following the shot stoppers prolific display against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season.
The win for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 against the German club saw the team claim their first ever European trophy.
The match went on to head into a penalty shootout and Cech went on to save an effort from Olic. This save gave the team hope and desire to win the game and that is just what they did, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 went on to score the winning penalty for the team.
However, Cech’s heroics weren’t saved only for the shootout. In the extra time at the end of the two halves, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 stepped up to take a penalty for the Germans. Had the Dutchman scored the goal, then Chelsea were as good as out of the game.
Surprisingly, Cech went on to produce a brilliant save and kept his team in the hunt for the trophy.
Mata is very grateful to the keeper for the efforts that he put in, especially since the Spaniard thought that he might have cost the team the match, after he missed from twelve yards out.
The Spaniard told the club’s official website: “After my penalty was saved I still believed in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837. I had wanted to take one, I always like to take the responsibility on the pitch. I missed but after that Petr was like an angel and saved the important
ones.”
He added: “It was an explosion of feelings when Didier scored that penalty!
“The game was crazy. Bayern Munich scored on about 80 minutes and with the last corner, our only one, Didier scored. We had suffered a lot and were so tired at the end, but it was destiny. This team deserved the Champions League.”
“Looking back now to be champions of Europe, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 and me went to the national team we were different people, we felt stronger and taller.”
It is now a wait to see if the Blues can replicate that performance this coming season, or if they will fail to live up to their expectations.
