Chelsea forward and Spanish international Juan Mata has gone on to praise the departing Roberto Di Matteo, as the Italian went on to part ways with the London based club yesterday.
The Blues went on to suffer a very disappointing loss to Juventus, which saw the club decide to let go of their manager, and bring in Rafa Benitez to replace him for the time being.
Despite Di Matteo no longer being his boss, Mata went on to take time out to thank the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager for his services, and the way he had helped the team win trophies last season.
"It's been a difficult day," said Mata. "http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo is no longer our manager.”
"I would like to thank him for all this time with us and wish him the best of luck for the future.”
"As a player he has been a legend for the 'Blues'. With him as a manager we won our first Champions League.”
"He will always be remembered. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Good-Luck-c39444 Robbie!"
Di Matteo was initially appointed as the care taker manager of Chelsea back in March this year. He came in to replace Andre Villas-Boas who was told to leave his managerial position at the club.
However, despite Di Matteo initially just being a temporary manager, he went on to help the team win the FA Cup and the coveted Champions League trophy.
These wins saw him become a fan favourite, and the club had no choice but to appoint him on a long term contract.
This season, the club kicked things off on a high note and seemed to be certain to win a trophy or two. However, as the season progressed, the team’s lack of depth began to kick in and they fell from the top spot in the league.
At the same time, the team is currently on the verge of falling out of the Champions League group stages, which is something that was just not acceptable for the team.
As a result the club opted to get rid of their manager and see just what difference bringing in a new manager would make.
