Chelsea’s Juan Mata has dismissed rumours that ‘player power’ resulted in the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.
Villas-Boas came to Chelsea after an impressive stint at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 having guided the Portuguese side to a treble winning season. However his stay at Stamford Bridge lasted just nine months during which the team dropped down to the 5th position
in the Premier League.
He took over the reins of the club at the start of the season and was under pressure after a string of poor results. He was eventually sacked after a surprise one nil defeat against Westbromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
Meanwhile http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo, who was the assistant coach under Villas-Boas, has been made the interim manager of the club till the end of the season.
The manager's dismissal was linked to the purported differences with the older generation of the club, although Mata has declined this notion and urged his side to salvage the remainder of the season. Speaking to the club's website, he said: "He did not
come to tell us off. He talked to us last week after the change of manager. He had also come to one or two training sessions. No player in the squad has done anything or thought about a change in the coach.”
"Perhaps Chelsea were used to a different style, perhaps a more physical one with a lot of chances in a small space of time, not such a fluid style but still a very attacking one.”
"It was maybe imposing a style when the team were not used it."
Mata, who was brought to the Blue side of  London by Villas-Boas, insisted that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager’s sacking was due to the ‘impatience’ of the owner, Roman Abramovich. This is because  Villas-Boas was struggling to develop a winning habit while
he was in charge of the team.
Mata then went on to thank Villas-Boas for support and confidence that he vested in him.
"It hasn't been an easy day for those who, like me, are part of Chelsea," read a post on Mata's official Facebook page. "I would like to thank the manager and wish him luck. We have to keep working hard and better days will come. Thanks for your support!"
Mata has urged his side to improve conditions at the Stamford Bridge and expressed his confidence by stating that ‘better days will come’.
