Matabeleland Tuskers v Mountaineers – Logan Cup, 2012/13 – Match Update
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matabeleland-Tuskers-c815 kicked off their Logan Cup campaign with a 5-wicket victory over the Mountaineers during their first-class match, played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, from October 30 to November 2.
The match began with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SC-Williams-c2464 (9-0-20-2), and eventually restricted all out to 264.
Most of the batsmen remained lacklustre, but Mark Pettini (58) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/H-Masakadza-c1517 (32) chipped in with useful contributions. However, the rest of the batting order was unable to step up to the challenge, and the Mountaineers found themselves bowled for a meagre 264 on day 1.
Day 2 saw the Tuskers declaring after posting a first innings total of 317. The chief contributors were Sean Ervine (83) and Sean Williams (88), alongside Brian Chari (42) and Moeen Ali (42), all of whom were able to score substantially despite the efforts of Tendai Chatara (20-7-49-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Donald-Tiripano-c1393 (22-2-100-3), and Natsai M’shangwe (13-1-56-2).
The Mountaineers’ second innings hinged on a massive century by Hamilton Masakadza (178). The Tuskers’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hodgson-c63281 (36), got the team up to a final total of 357 before they declared, setting the Tuskers a 305-run target.
The final day of play, however, saw the Tuskers easily chasing down the target, despite the efforts of Natsai M’shangwe (16-1-80-4). Brian Chari (98) and Moeen Ali (95) played pivotal roles in the chase, and Chari followed up his 72-run opening partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Terry-Duffin-c2657 (29), with a 147-run second-wicket stand with Ali.
Ali was sent packing by Shingi Masakadza, but Chari went on to team up with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KO-Meth-c1803 (11*), saw the Tuskers reaching 307 within 70 overs, claiming a 5-wicket victory over the Mountaineers.
