Half-tons from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tino-Mawoyo-c2683, followed by a 3-wicket haul from Shingi Masakadza, saw the Mountaineers claiming a narrow 5-run win over the Matabeleland Tuskers, in the ongoing Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Competition, 2012-13,
at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on October 7.
The Tuskers won the toss and elected to field first – however, with the exception of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mountaineers-c818’ batting order.
Kevin Kasuza (2) was dismissed without contributing much to the team total, caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SC-Williams-c2464 off Meth in the very first over. However, fellow opener Hamilton Masakadza contributed a solid unbeaten total of 84, in addition to teaming up with skipper
Mawoyo (54) for a massive 107-run partnership for the second wicket.
Mawoyo was trapped lbw by Meth in the 15th over, and wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kudzai-Sauramba-c1817 was run out on 1 by Brian Chari in the very next over. However, Shingi Masakadza (14*) joined Hamilton for an unbeaten 54-run stand, which got the team up
to a final total of 167 by the end of 20 overs.
The Tuskers followed up their lukewarm bowling attack with a similarly ineffective performance with the bat, and aside from Craig Ervine’s half-ton, the remainder of the team fell prey to the assaults of the Mountaineers’ bowlers, chief among them Shingi
Masakadza, who claimed 3 for 20.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CK-Coventry-c1267 (31) and Ervine (71) made a valiant attempt to get the innings on track, setting up a 50-run stand for the second wicket.
Coventry fell prey to Natsai M’shangwe in the 6th over, but his successor Brian Chari (28) kept the momentum going, establishing a 53-run partnership with Ervine. Chari was caught out by Tendai Chatara off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tapiwa-Mufudza-c2646 in the 15th
over, and Meth (11), who followed him to the crease, was the last batsman who managed a double-digit score, in addition to setting up a 46-run stand with Ervine.
The 19th over saw Meth, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Terry-Duffin-c2657 (0), after which he bowled Keith
Dabengwa (7). The same over saw Chatara running out both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Njabulo-Ncube-c79773 (0), and the Mountaineers succeeded in limiting the Tuskers to 162, all out, going on to claim a 5-run win.
