The Giallorossi coach believes that his side can fight their way out of the relegation zone; blames the defeat against AC Milan on injuries.
Serse Cosmi believes Lecce will need to fight their way to Serie A safety, and insists that his struggling side has the ability to bridge the six-point gap.
The Giallorossi saw their five-match unbeaten streak come to an end against AC Milan last weekend, and the team is now placed 18th in the Serie A points table. The Salentini coach believes that his side is not doomed
to relegation, and insists that the upcoming match against Palermo can change their fortunes.
While talking to the press, the former Palermo coach said:
“As before the game with Siena, I now again have the feeling next Sunday’s match with Palermo can be a turning point.”
The 53-year-old attributed the 2-0 loss against AC Milan to the key players that were missing from the squad. However, he admitted that there is nothing to take away from the unsatisfactory performance of his side against the Milan
giants.
“We were missing many key players against Milan and I don’t like whining, but you have to be objective too. Of course I wasn’t satisfied with the performance, even taking into account the value of our opponents.”
The Lupi coach insisted that the upcoming match against Palermo is a different scenario for his team, as the opposition is not as threatening as the Rossoneri. He has urged his team to remain focused and not to let the nerves get
the better of them.
“Palermo will be totally different, as this is a very complicated encounter and we are in a situation where we are forced to win. When you’re in these circumstances, it’s possible anxiety and tension can grow, but we mustn’t make
that mistake.”
Cosmi believes that the club should target 40-41 points, which according to him will be the cut-off point for safety this season.
Lecce will play Palermo in their matchday 28 game of Serie A on Sunday, March 18th.
