The game between Milne Craig Clydesdale Western and HF Lorenzoni ended in a draw by 3-3-in their second match of the Italy tour, which was played on June 9. In the previous game they were badly defeated by 2-1 to Ginstra Strekte Universitas from Lithuania.
The manager of the Western team, Elaine Macara, was not pleased with the results, especially with their defeat in the first game.
“We did not create enough chances but the girls did not deserve to lose all three points”, Macara stated after their defeat in the first match.
“We are still not firing on all cylinders but slowly but surely we are beginning to play some good hockey. The girls are working very hard and their commitment cannot be faulted”, Elaine Macara, the manager of the Western team further explained her views after the second match.
The Western side displayed a lot improved performance as compared to their first game, but unfortunately could not manage to clinch the important victory as HF Lorenzoni scored the equaliser in the dying moments of the match.
The first half started with a lot of action and thrill as just in the starting moments of the match, the HF Lorenzoni took the lead by scoring their first goal, but they could not maintain the lead for more than five minutes. Holly Cram scored a wonderful goal for the Western, levelling the score by 1-1. However just before the end of first half, HF Lorenzoni once again broke the dead-lock and went to half-time by leading the score-board by 2-1.
Trailing by one goal, Western entered into the second half with more passion and energy and the result was obviously in their favour as they scored the second equaliser in the opening minutes of the second half. The scorer was once again Holly Cram who did it with a beautiful stick work and dribbling skills. After the second goal, the Western were more boosted and got the momentum that led them to score the third goal and for them, which could have been the decider of the match. Ali Howie scored the third goal for the Western and thus putting them ahead of their opponents in the last 15 minutes.
However, HF Lorenzoni held their nerves until the end and despite missing a penalty-stroke, they still managed to score the equaliser in the last moments of the match and levelled the score by 3-3, which lasted until the match concluded. The Western will play their next game against Australia’s HC Wels.
