Match between Tasmania and Northern Territory ends in a 4-4 draw
The day six match of the U-21 Australian National Men’s Hockey Championship between Tasmania and Northern Territory (NT), which took place on July 11, at the Perth Hockey Stadium, ended in a four-all draw.
It was one of the most competitive matches of the Championship, where both the teams displayed impressive performances and failed to decide the game after seventy minutes of play.
The players from Tasmania and NT exhibited splendid performances in the contest and drew the game. Though the game was opened at quite very fast pace, no team could score until the 14th minute of the match. Angus Boulton was the player who took the ball at the top of the circle and unleashed an easy shot into the NT's goal. However, the lead was short-lived and NT tied the game in the very next minute. Tarrant Haami-Jones converted a short-corner and increased the suspense of the game.
After locking horns at one-all, the players from the two teams made a number of penetrations into the defensive circles of either side, but they could not add a score. The ball mostly remained at the midfield position and results remained unchanged until the waning minutes of the first half of play.
With one minute left on the clock of the first half, the NT's side received a penalty-corner which was converted by Joel Latham. He executed a well-coordinated shot at the right corner of the Tasmanian goal. However, in the last minute, Dougal Middleton scored off a short-corner for Tasmania and had it all even at 2-2, before the conclusion of first half action.
The fast-paced match continued to enthral the spectators, as both the teams were putting efforts in a quest for the leading goal. With three minutes into the second half, Stephen Tonkiss scored a goal from the field effort and put Northern Territory ahead on the scoreboard. However, the joys could not last for long and Tasmanian strikers tied the knots in the next few minutes. The Tasmania team earned a penalty-corner and again called Dougal Middleton to avail the chance. He did not disappoint the Tasmanian fans and levelled off the results at three-each.
The game further paced up, when Tim Boeteler notched a goal from the field effort and regained a single-score lead, 4-3 for NT.
It was a matter of four minutes, when Brendan O’Connor managed a goal from the field and once again made a tie-up at four-all. It was the final score, as both the teams failed to make any change to the scoreboard and the match ended in a 4-4 draw.
