Match fixing goes wrong at Wimbledon and London Olympics for Roger Federer – Tennis Special
It looks like the scenario for the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) has all got wrong and their calculations have taken a swift slump. Surprised? I am talking about match fixing.
World number two, Novak Djokovic, takes the Australian Open title to continue his emphatic run of winning Grand Slams in 2012 as well. World number three, Rafael Nadal, clinches the seventh French Open title at Paris almost untested
and then comes the surprise of the season with the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, clinching the Wimbledon Championships crown under the nose of the fourth ranked superstar, Andy Murray.
Moreover, the revenge mission for Murray helps him outsmart the likes of the 17-Grand Slam title holder, Federer, in straight sets during the gold medal final at London Olympics. No Grand Slam title but a Gold Medal for Andy Murray;
amazing!
The US Open is left and that will most probably be handed over to the Serb superstar, Novak Djokovic, who will sustain a close gap of points with Federer for the top spot in the world rankings. It seems like everything is going
well on-course for the ATP with each member of the Top-4 category getting something in the season.
Now, the problem arrives when we see the overall stats of the players. Federer needed the gold medal to complete a Career Gold Slam and enter the elite list that contains just two players, Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal. He is 30
years old and the next edition of Olympics will be contested in 2016 when the Swiss legend will be 34. So, technically there is no chance for him to win a gold medal. London Olympics was probably his last shot.
Moreover, he didn’t require winning Wimbledon title and Murray could have been handed over that glory of breaking the duck at the Grand Slams tally but the calculations of the ATP went wrong. If they think they will leave Federer
without a gold medal, it will be a spot on the career of the legendary superstar who has attained everything in her career but gold.
Murray will not even touch the age of 30 during the next edition of Olympics. So, he could have accomplished winning a gold medal in Brazil but then the courts will most probably be clay and Nadal on his peak form can’t allow anyone
to reign supreme at the red dirt.
Everything was all messed up for the Professionals who wanted to avoid two straight victories for the number one Briton on his home soil, Wimbledon. So, they gifted him the gold medal. They could have swapped Wimbledon with gold
and that would have made perfect sense with Federer leading the world ranks and completing a Career Gold Slam during his last two or maximum three years of professional tennis.
Bad luck Federer, you may not be having a gold medal in your title rack and that will automatically put Nadal above you as he is the superstar with everything under his belt.
