Match shouldn’t have lasted till the 50th over - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 – Cricket News Update
Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir claimed that his side needlessly prolonged their win against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at Adelaide, after a nail biting finish resulted in the Men in Blue getting 13 off the last over to win the match.
"We should have finished this game in the 48th over," he said. "We shouldn't have taken the game to the 50th over, that's my personal observation. I know it's always easier to talk when you are in the dressing room, and it's always tough in the middle, but
my personal observation is we shouldn't have let this game go into the last over."
The Player of the Match, who remained the top-scorer with 92 runs, questioned MS Dhoni’s strategy of letting the match extend to the eleventh hour.
“I don't know what was going through MS's mind, but maybe he wanted to delay it, maybe he wanted someone else to take that responsibility,” the left-hander said.
However, he still praised the skipper, saying that at the end of the day, he still played the most “important shot in the match,” referring to Dhoni’s timely six in the last over.
Praising his captain as an accomplished finisher, Gambhir said that it was a difference of game plans and mindsets. While the wicketkeeper batsman obviously preferred to play his cards close to his chest, the 30-year old teammate felt that the strategy involved
far too much pressure, particularly on the last few batsmen who had to take the responsibility to finish the game.
Gambhir was not the only one disappointed in his team’s performance. Australian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 also expressed dismay regarding his team’s poor fielding, referring to the Aussie’s obvious lack of concentration, which led to an inability to restrain
the Indian batsmen, particularly in the last few overs.
