Question:

Mate upset about benefit problems?

I have a mate that has told me here benefits have been stopped and that the DSS have told her they are not satisfied with her documents she provided to prove she is entitled to certain benefits. She has to go and see them beginning of October but in mean time her benefits have been stopped.

I did not know what to say to reassure her? Seems unusual to me.

  1. maybe she isnt looking for a job, or refused a job

to claim jobseekers you need to prove you are actively seeking work

  2. It is not unusual at all - they may suspect that she is a benefit cheat - she may have sent in wrong papers or filled them out wrong.

If she is genuine - the benefits will be paid back to her.

If she is struggling to make ends meet - she should ring the department concerned and tell them she is struggling to make ends meet and try and get the appointment moved nearer and/or ask for help in the meantime.

This sounds more like someone has reported her to the benefits agency/DSS and they are obliged to investigate.
