An object is not a person, you give greater value to objects rather than people, you do not treat people as well as you should, and since morality is defined by treating other people well (sincerely, not in a fake manner), that is why therefore materialism leads to moral decline.

It is not objects that lead to it, it is how people view the objects. If people could gain material wealth and still be good people, it wouldn't. But, unfortunately, human nature doesn't work like that.
