I am planning to make a 10 gal crabitat and i was wondering if i could use like some branches from outside or something or pieces of logs to make a sort of dock for them to climb up onto or hide under? And i would have a net for climbing. would it be a good idea?

Please help! Thanks!

  1. How many crabs do you have/going to get? a 10 gallon tank is ideal for 10 TINY crabs, 6 mediums, and four larges (golf ball size). Even if you have enough space for the crabs, I would invest in at least a 20 gallon, trust me, they're way better and they can go for around $20 bucks.

You can use branches from outside, as long as they dont contain any harmful sunstances from pine trees, conifers, evergreens etc. If it isnt a sappy tree, you should be safe. Also, microwave the wood for 70 - 80 seconds before introducing it to the crabitat. The nest is a great idea. Fish nets work great as well as cotton or hemp nets. hang them in a corner or make a tall hammock and the crabs will love it. Also try and move around the crabitat setup every 2 weeks. They will get bored. Make sure you have a good hideaway in the tank, I find that the resin caves made for lizards work great, and if you cover it with the net, they can climb it easily!

    Good Luck!
