  1. well, if they are too rich for insurance, they'll have to pay everything outright...THEY need to research things.  you can't do anything for them.  tell them to look into pregnancy-only policies.  why don't they have insurance?

  2. Unless she knows POSITIVELY that she will not qualify for medicaid or any other state assistnce for pregnancy, she should apply. Pregnancy allows higher income levels (in Arizona it is 150% of the poverty level). For a family of 3 (the unborn is counted) the income maximum is $2200 per month.

If she does not qualify, all hospitals and OB's have cash discounted rates for delivery. Since she is early in her pregnancy, they will have lots of time to save. Check early with the hospital and doctors to make sure you know what to expect. Also be sure you ask about the cash price for epidurals, well baby pediatrician's check and circumcision (for a baby boy).

  3. Maternity Advantage is just another name for MaterityCard, which is nothing more than a discount card. The discount you receive using the card is the same discount you'd receive paying cash. In fact, you do have to pay cash when you use the card.

The best way to pay for delivery is to call your doctor and hospital and set up a payment plan. You will save the $100 per month cost of the card and instead pay that directly to the hospital. Since she has insurance complications of pregnancy, such as a c-section, are covered in AZ whether or not she has maternity coverage.
