Question:

Maternity leave for teachers?

For those who have taken maternity leave, how much time did you take off and did your school expect you to take off a certain number of days before your due date so a suitable substitute could be found?

The reason I ask is that my baby is due September 28th. I would prefer to work up to 2 weeks before my due date, but since the school year starts September 1st, my school has asked me to take the full month off. This would be difficult for me financially (we are only allowed 7 paid sick days per year, and I have already used 2 of those!). What has happened in your cases?

  1. Do you live in the U.S.?  The American system of maternity leave sucks!  If you were teaching in Canada you would have a year off and then 5 years (unpaid) with your job guaranteed.

  2. It's been along time since I had my daughter. There was no such thing as paid sick leave! Somehow, the Lord provided. This is only the beginning of the sacrifices a family makes when we have a child. I know you already have one child, double that. It's well worth it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  3. long long , waste time
