Mateusz Kowalczyk and Guido Andreozzi qualify in the next round – Szczecin Challenger 2012
Mateusz Kowalczyk defeats Wojciech Szostak 6-2, 6-2
Right-hander, Mateusz Kowalczyk rallied past his compatriot, Wojciech Szostak, in the initial qualifying round of the Szczecin Challenger held in Poland. The duo encountered each other for the first time at their
home ground and Kowalczyk summed up his straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 win on Saturday.
The 19-year-old, Szostak commenced the first serve in the opener and drew the first blood. However, he was unable to sustain his domination in the series as the scores evened out to 2-all in the next game. Kowalczyk
due to his experience busted his rival’s serve in the fifth and the seventh game in order to bring the score line to 5-2. He skilfully made his way without facing any difficulty and marked the set closure with a 6-2 score.
In the final set, the 25-year-old, Kowalczyk exhibited a classic game plan and broke his rival’s serve in the initial game. This gave him the confidence to clinch the initial two games in a row and mark a 2-love
lead. On the other hand, Szostak struggled hard to overcome but his efforts proved insignificant. Like before, Kowalczyk advanced without facing any break and smoothly marched to win one game at a time and in the end nudged forward to close the match with
his 6-2 win.
Guido Andreozzi prevails over Damian Okrutny 6-0, 6-1
World number 200, Guido Andreozzi, crushed the local challenger, Damian Okrutny, in the second qualifier of the Szczecin Challenger 2012. The Argentinean native penned down his 6-0, 6-1 triumph on the eve of
Saturday.
The 21-year-old, Andreozzi displayed his classic performance since the start of the opener and broke his rival’s serve right in the beginning. He successfully marked his front in the series and advanced without
facing any obstacle. The Pole seemed powerless as compared to his rival and did not even secure a single game. Andreozzi confidently stepped forward and wrapped up the set with a 6-0 score.
In the next set, the 18-year-old local challenger struggled hard to upset his rival but like before his efforts seemed insignificant. The Argentinean professional clinched the initial three games and stamped
a 3-0 lead in the score line. He broke Okrutny’s serve in the sixth game and wrapped up the match with his 6-1 win.
Both the players displayed the exact same initial serve of 53 percent in the match. The right-hander Argentinean pounced five aces against his opponent, conversing five of seven break points presented to him.
On the contrary, his competitor double faulted five times at the critical moments in the match and was unable to demonstrate considerable improvement in his rankings.
