Mateusz Taciak wins second stage and also takes overall lead in 2011 Tour of Qinghai Lake
CCC Polsat Polkowice team’s Mateusz Taciak won the second stage and also took the overall leader’s yellow jersey in 2011 Tour of Qinghai Lake on Sunday, July 3.
The race started in Xining and ended in Qinghai Lake. The 27-year-old Mateusz took a total of 3 hours, 9 minutes and 41 seconds to cover the distance of 146.4 kilometres.
Matej Mugerli of Perutnina Ptuj was the runner-up with the same timing of Mateusz. Abbas Saeidi Tanha of Azad University was in good form, but unable to maintain his pace and grabbed the third place with a difference of 9 seconds, while stage one winner’s
Aaron Kemps of V Australia was in 30th spot.
A group of three cyclists, Michael Freiberg (V Australia), Kun Jiang (Max Success Sports) and Peilun Wu (Qinghai Tianyoude Cycling Team) made their first breakaway. All of them gained a lead of a few seconds, but the last two riders were caught by the peloton
and Michael Freiberg won the first sprint.
After few kilometres to go, a new group wa formed which included Kristijan Durasek (Loborika Favorit Team), Biao Liu (Qinghai Tianyoude Cycling Team) and Ghader Mizbani Iranagh (Tabriz Petrochemical Team). Biao Liu attacked and tried to take a lead, but
Durasek gained an advantage and took the second sprint.
However, in the final sprint Mateusz Taciak and Matej Mugerli worked together and build an advantage, but Taciak increased his pace and crossed the finish-line ahead of other cyclists.
Kristijan Durasek of Loborika Favorit took title of King of Mountain (KOM) of the day, ahead of Biao Liu and Abbas Saeidi Tanha.
Ghader Mizbani Iranagh of the Ghader Mizbani Iranagh team took the title of Asian Rider classification with a timing of 6 hours, 4 minutes and 41 seconds ahead of Amir Zargari.
Mateusz Taciak also took a lead in overall classification with a time of 6 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Matej Mugerli of Perutnina Ptuj was a runner-up with 4 seconds and Tomislav Danculovic of Loborika Favorit finished third with 19 seconds behind Taciak.
The next stage will start in Qinghai Lake and end in Bird Island. All the riders will cover the distance of 120.6 kilometres.
