In isosceles triangle ABC, B is the vertex. The measure of <B can be represented as (8x+2). The measure of <A can be represented as (9x-2). Find the measure of all three angles of the triangle. Be sure to name the angle with it's measurement.

  1. <B = 58

    <A = 61

    <C = 61

  2. The triangle is isosceles. Since B is the vertex,A and C are equal.

    The sum of the three angles must equal 180 degrees. So...

    (9x-2) + (9x-2) + (8x+2) = 180

    26x - 2 = 180

    26x = 182

    x = 7

    Therefore... A = 61 = C

    And... B = 58

  3. first draw an isosceles triangle. (two sides same length, one side shorter. kinda like a V, if it was a triangle..)

    next label the corners.

    B is the unique corner

    measure of angle A = 9x-2.

    measure of angle B = 8x+2.

    measure of angle C = 9x-2.

    3 angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees.

    A + B + C = 180

    (9x-2) + (8x+2) + (9x-2) = 180

    find what x is using algebra.

    x = 7.

    plug in x = 7 for the following:

    measure of A = 9x - 2

    A = 61

    measure of B = 8x +2

    B = 58

    measure of C = 9x-2

    C = 61
