Over the summer I went to course that reviews grade 8 math and starts grade 9 math.. we got these equations that were a mix of order of operation, exponents, algebra and integers the got really confusing and I need someone to explain it to me!

They looked like this:

(-6a+7b²-5a²) x (3b²-(-4a)+7b+b)

I know the next step would be:

-6a-5a²-(-4a) + 7b²x3b²+7b+b

then i dont understand the rest!

  1. you just have to group the like terms and if ur given the values of the variables then just substitute them

  2. Did you mean to multiply them in the first part, because if you did the second step is wrong.

    If you meant to put

    (-6a+7b²-5a²) + (3b²-(-4a)+7b+b)

    then here are the steps

First take away the parentheses inside the parentheses

    (-6a + 7b² - 5a²) + (3b² + 4a + 7b + b)

Then take away the other sets of parentheses

    -6a + 7b² - 5a² + 3b² + 4a + 7b + b

Then group like terms together - remember that a and a² are two different terms that can't be added or subtracted to each other

    -6a + 4a - 5a² + 7b² + 3b² + 7b + b

    Then combine like terms

    -2a - 5a² + 10b² + 8b

And that's as far as you can go

  3. the 7b² shud stay on the side that it started on and so shud the -4a u dont move them sides. ill see if i can work it out and sen u the answer

    i get 4a cubed + 13bcubed

dont no how to do the little numbers lol

  4. [-6a + 7b^2 - 5a^2][3b^2 - (-4a) + 7b + b]

    = [-6a + 7b^2 - 5a^2][3b^2 + 4a + 8b]

    = -6a*3b^2 + 7b^2*3b^2 - 5a^2*3b^2 - 6a*4a + 7b^2*4a - 5a^2*4a - 6a*8b + 7b^2*8b - 5a^2*8b

    = -6ab^2 + 21b^4 - 15a^2b^2 - 24a^2 + 28ab^2 - 20a^3 - 48ab + 56b^3 - 40a^2b

    = 21b^4 + 56b^3 - 6ab^2 + 28ab^2 - 15a^2b^2 - 40a^2b - 48ab - 24a^2 - 20a^3

    = 21b^4 + 56b^3 + 22ab^2 - 15a^2b^2 - 40a^2b - 48ab - 24a^2 - 20a^3

  5. now that's a tricky one, but no problem, lets see....

           (-6a+7b²-5a²) x (3b²-(-4a)+7b+b)

    =(-6a+7b²-5a²) x (3b² + 4a + 8b)

    =(-18 ab² -24a² -48ab)+(21b^4 + 28ab² + 56 b^3)+(-15a²b² -20a^3 -                                                                                           40a²b)

    Now, rearranging,

    = -24a² -20a^3 +56b^3 + 21b^4 - 48ab +10ab² -40a²b-15a²b

^ means raised to the power ( i dunno how to use superscript!)

    hmpf! hope i helped!
