The number 66 is divided into smaller numbers. one number is 3 more than twice the other number. find the larger of the 2 numbers.

  1. x + (2x+3) = 66

    3x + 3 = 66

    3x = 63

    x = 21

    since x is the smaller number, plug it back in to the equation and solve for the larger number.

    2x^2 +3x -66=0
